So Long As You Live, Keep Learning How To Live
Stop Waiting, Start Growing
Most of us spend our lives waiting. British people spend over two years of their lives standing in lines. When you add the time spent waiting for the kettle to boil or sitting on hold, we lose years to doing nothing at all.
This is a massive waste of potential. Most people stop learning after they finish school. They spend their spare moments complaining about queues or scrolling through their phones. If you want to grow, you have to use these small gaps in your day.
Use Your Waiting Time
The best way to fix this is simple: Always carry a book with you. Think of Belle from Beauty and the Beast. She is famous for walking through her village with her nose in a book. She ignores the noise and the routine around her because she is focused on a better story. When you have a book, a long queue is no longer a frustration; it becomes an opportunity to get smarter. Like Belle, you are choosing to expand your world while everyone else is just waiting for the day to end.
A Lesson from "Never Eat Alone"
I just finished reading Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi, and it’s a perfect example of how one book can completely shift your perspective. One line in particular stayed with me:
"Relationships are solidified by trust. You gain trust by asking not what people can do for you, but what you can do for others. The real currency of networking is not greed, but generosity."
This changes everything. A good book doesn’t just help you see the world more clearly; it helps you see the people in it more clearly. Ferrazzi reminds us that building a life of success isn’t a solo mission, it’s about reaching out and, most importantly, having fun while you do it.
The Challenge
I have learned that personal growth does not happen by accident. It happens because of the choices you make during the quiet parts of your day.
Do not leave your house today without something to read. Use your waiting time to feed your mind and learn how to lead with generosity. Your future depends on what you learn today.
What book are you reading right now to help you grow?
