Ways to Feel Happier Going into Autumn

In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.
— Albert Einstein

As summer fades and autumn arrives, many of us are returning to our routines. Some may be heading back to work, while others are returning to school or even starting a new journey at university or college. This shift can be a perfect time to inject some fun and novelty into your life.

Embrace the Change

It's completely normal to feel a bit sad as summer ends. We miss the long days, the abundant natural light, and the fun of holidays with family and friends. Instead of letting these feelings turn into frustration or anger, acknowledge them and make a plan to bring some of that joy into your autumn.

Consider trying something completely new and fun, like a pole dancing class or a twerking class. It’s a fantastic way to break up the monotony of a routine and get some exercise while you're at it. I recently started pole dancing, and the bruises, which are apparently called "pole kisses," are ridiculous! But honestly, it's worth it for the laughs and the confidence boost.

Tackle Stress Head-On

The change of seasons can often bring new sources of stress, whether it's managing a new school schedule for your children, facing a challenging work project, or just dealing with a jam-packed calendar. To feel happier, it's crucial to identify what's causing your stress and take action.

Get practical and tactical. If it's a new work project, talk to your boss about your concerns. If it's the school run, see if you can delegate some of the pickups and drop-offs. By addressing these issues directly, you can reduce anxiety and regain a sense of control.

Recharge Your Batteries

Summer can be a busy time, and you might be heading into autumn feeling tired and run down. To manage the upcoming pressures, you need to make sure your energy levels are high.

Reflect on how you feel right now. What do you need to do to recharge? Maybe it's going to bed an hour earlier, spending less time on your phone, or making more time for exercise. Create a plan for the next few months where your sleep, nutrition, and exercise are non-negotiable. Taking care of yourself is the best way to handle the demands of the autumn season.
