Growing at Your Own Pace
“Comparison is the thief of joy.”
It’s easy to look around and feel like you’re falling behind. Whether scrolling through social media or chatting at a networking event, we see people hitting major milestones, mastering new skills, or just seeming to have it all sorted. Instantly, that quiet pressure to rush catches up to us.
But growth isn't a race, and true wellness definitely doesn't look the same for everyone.
Take a look at the image above showing the triangle pose in yoga.
The first person uses two blocks for support.
The next uses one.
The third rests on their leg.
The last touches the floor.
Every single one of them is doing the pose correctly. The person using the blocks isn't failing; they are simply listening to their body and using the tools they need to stretch safely.
In wellness, we often talk about the Wheel of Life. A framework covering everything from career and finances to health, relationships, and personal growth. Just like the people in the drawing, you might be at completely different stages in different areas of your wheel.
You might be touching the floor effortlessly when it comes to your career, but needing two blocks of support to get through a difficult patch in your personal relationships or physical health. And that is completely okay. Needing extra time, asking for help, or taking a step back in one area of your life isn't a setback. It’s just sensible self-care.
When we compare our daily reality to everyone else’s highlights, we lose sight of our own progress.
Don’t rush the process. Allow yourself to grow at your own pace. Stop comparing your life to what other people are doing.
Your timeline is yours alone. It’s okay if it takes you longer to sort out your career, heal from something difficult, or reach a personal wellness goal. The value of the journey doesn't decrease just because one spoke on your wheel takes a little more time to develop.
If you’re feeling pressured to hurry up and balance everything perfectly all at once, try to focus on these three things:
Acknowledge the small steps: Progress isn't just about the big finishes. It’s also about the quiet days where you just keep going.
Filter what you consume: If certain social media accounts leave you feeling anxious or inadequate about your lifestyle, give yourself permission to take a break from them.
Focus on your own lane: Celebrate others, but remember that their success doesn't take anything away from your own potential.
Be kind to yourself this week. Trust your own timing, use the support you need, and remember that finding balance is a continuous practice, not a final destination.
If you're looking for a supportive space to explore your own pace and work on your Wheel of Life, come along to one of our upcoming wellness retreat events. We design every retreat to be a pressure-free environment where you can show up exactly as you are.
Where in your life can you give yourself a little more breathing room this week?
